Rites of passage:
The Deer Tribe Metis Medicine Society web site discusses training programs in the wisdom of native peoples in the Americas. Its page on rites of passage, http://www.dtmms.org/rites-of-passage/index.htm, includes two excellent discussions of rites of passage: “What are rites of passage?” http://www.dtmms.org/rites-of-passage/what-are-rites.htm and “Why do we need rites of passage?” http://www.dtmms.org/rites-of-passage/why-need-rites.htm.
Rites of Passage - Rites Of Passage Cross-culturally, Cultural Performance, Social Drama, And Rites Of Passage, http://family.jrank.org/pages/1414/Rites-Passage.html, includes several articles on rites of passage from an anthropological perspective.
BeliefNet’s page on Life Events, http://www.beliefnet.com/Love-Family/Life-Events/index.aspx, gives links to pages with various levels of information on several different life passages (scroll about half-way down the page to Moments and Milestones). Some of the linked pages provide more information than others. The page on Death, for example, gives a brief overview of the death-related beliefs, funeral practices, and mourning rituals from several major religions and denominations, while the Coming Out link only leads to a prayer. For those who are interested, BeliefNet is quite a large site with links to just about any aspect of religion or spiritual life one might want to examine.
